- Description: One trial in thirteen men of 74 gave the rule its name. Then 23 studies were pooled, and the timing effect vanished as soon as total daily protein was held level.

| ✦ New Frontier Of Your Mind ✦ You have thirty minutes. That is the rule every gym hands out. Miss the window and the session was wasted. It came from one trial, back in 2001… Thirteen men, average age 74. Esmarck’s group in Copenhagen trained them three times a week for twelve weeks. Half drank their protein straight after the session. The rest waited two hours. Only the immediate half grew. Thigh cross-section went from 54.6 to 58.3 square centimetres. The men who waited gained nothing measurable. Their title said timing is important. The gyms took it from there. // The Facts 23 studies pooled on protein timing, covering 525 people. 0.24 the effect on muscle size before anything was held level. 0.14 what was left once total daily protein was matched. Not significant. Total protein intake came out as the strongest predictor in that model. A later trial put 21 trained men on 25 g of whey, either just before training or just after, three sessions a week for ten weeks. Squat strength rose 3.7% and 4.9%. Muscle thickness did not separate. So the question turns to how much, not when. Morton pooled 49 trials and 1,863 people on protein and lifting. Supplements added 0.30 kg of lean mass on average. Past 1.62 grams per kilo a day, more protein added nothing… though the interval runs wide, from 1.03 to 2.20. For a man of 80 kg that lands near 130 grams. // The Fuel How much, not when // The Steps Hit The Daily Number A kitchen scale and a bit of arithmetic cover it. 01 Work out your target, at roughly 1.6 g per kilo of body weight. 02 Split it across the day, so every meal carries a decent share. 03 Eat when it suits you, before the session or after it. 04 Count food first. Powder fills the gap, it is not the base. 05 Past your number, more protein buys nothing for muscle. The pooled work says the gain from extra protein shrinks with age, so older muscle is its own case. That trial tested a two hour delay, not a missed day. Nobody has tested skipping protein for a day around training. Strength came out the same whether the whey went in before the session or after it. The 1.62 figure carries a wide interval. Read it as a region, not a line. [↗ Source: Esmarck, Journal of Physiology, 2001](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2278776/) Most timing advice quotes a paper nobody has opened. I spend more than $20,000 a year on private research… the sort hedge funds pay for. Walled off from the public. Then I check what the pooled work did to it. That 2001 title does say timing is important. In thirteen men of 74, against a two hour wait. That is the entire claim. My own shake lands whenever I get to it. One man, and the scale has not noticed. // Quick Check First reaction?
