| ✦ New Frontier Of Your Mind ✦ Barbell down, then ice. That order has a price. Cold does settle the ache, which is what people buy it for. It also quiets the message that tells muscle to build… One lab put twelve weeks behind that. // Quick Check First reaction? [🤯 Mind blown](mailto:ario0auyov0xny@outlook.com?subject=Reaction:%20Mind%20blown) [🔬 More like this](mailto:ario0auyov0xny@outlook.com?subject=Reaction:%20More) [🤷 Meh](mailto:ario0auyov0xny@outlook.com?subject=Reaction:%20Meh) // The Facts 21 active men, each with a year of lifting behind them 15% quadriceps growth in the group that cycled gently after each session 2% growth in the group that sat in cold water instead Twelve weeks of leg work, twice a week. Ten minutes in the water at ten degrees, against ten minutes of easy pedaling. Leg press rose more on the bike too, 59% against 42%. That gap alone was not firm. A separate arm of nine men gave muscle samples. Satellite cells repair and add tissue. Fewer of them came back after the plunge. Lifting alone landed at 0.36. Add a plunge after it and the figure fell to 0.14. That second range still crosses zero. The gain got hard to see at all. Strength is murkier. Ten trials on 170 people came out at minus 0.23. That just clears the bar. It came from the studies icing one limb. Where people got in up to the neck, no clear loss showed. That is the version most of us actually do. Those numbers are effect sizes, not percent. Bigger means more growth. Of the 170 in the strength pool, 14 were women. The paper gives no ages at all. So nobody knows how this lands past 50. Poor for the build. The trials that show a loss all share one thing. People got in the water within fifteen minutes of the bar. None tested a plunge the morning after, or on a rest day. So the fix is about the clock, not the cold. // The Fix Put The Cold Somewhere Else // The Steps Cold On The Other Days 01 Lift, then leave the cold alone for the rest of that day. 02 Plunge on rest days, or after a run, where size is not the point. 03 For soreness, ten to fifteen minutes at 11 to 15 degrees. 04 Two events in one day? That is the gap the cold was built for. 05 Chasing size after a session? A warm shower and a meal. That soreness figure comes from a pooled review of 55 trials on 1,139 people. To get your jump back, colder water won. Ten to fifteen minutes at 5 to 10 degrees. Pick one and hit send. [🏇 Right after lifting](mailto:ario0auyov0xny@outlook.com?subject=Poll:%20After%20lifting) [🕐 Hours later or next day](mailto:ario0auyov0xny@outlook.com?subject=Poll:%20Later) [🌪 I have never tried it](mailto:ario0auyov0xny@outlook.com?subject=Poll:%20Never) I sat in cold water after leg day for two years. The ache went, so I took that as proof it was working. What the trials measured was the part I could not feel. Mood is another matter. None of the eight size trials asked about it. So they cannot answer for it. Heart trouble and cold water need a word with your doctor first. // Talk To Me When do you get in the water?
